The Broadway version on Thoroughly Modern Millie opened in 2002, winning the Tony and Drama Desk award for Best Musical for the brilliant writing team of Richard Morris, Jeanine Tesori and Dick Scanlan.
The story takes place in 1922, when Millie Dillmount arrives in New York City from Salina, Kansas, where she is determined to become a "modern woman."
